When a man constantly thinks about objects, attachment for those objects arises. From attachment is born desire, and from desire is born anger.

From anger comes delusion, from delusion comes loss of memory, from loss of memory comes destruction of intellect, and once the intellect is destroyed, he perishes.

Suffering: Buddha and the Sick Man | All Things Spiritual

it is said that the world is full of suffering, and we all have a fair share of it too, but how does it shape us, does it make us better human beings or does it drive us lower in the curve of evolution?

Sufferings is not just physical pain or suffering, It includes every disturbance or modification that arises from or happens to or happens within the mind and body in fact, bodily pain may be far more bearable than mental suffering. Sufferings hide behind them the modifications of the mind such as ignorance, ego, pride etc. for a being that is entangled with his or her own ego, such a suffering would be part of his or her daily life. Last Days of Abhimanyu Life | Abhimanyu Death in Mahabharat | Story of Abhimanyu Death

Last days of Abhimanyu life | All Things Spiritual

Krishna tells Abhimanyu , that look at all these soldiers, History wont be remembering these soldiers as they are commoners. They also can be struck by death suddenly. and as you are human too, you could also die in this war. hearing these worlds Abhimanyu's face expression suddenly changed. his face showed fluster and confusion as to why Krishna mentioned death in this regard.

Krishna continued, each death has its has its own importance. Lakhs and crores of people would die in this war, but in a sense they wont really die as the aatman is undying, and all people dying wont achieve fame and honour of dying in the war. This is defined in the destiny that each person carries when he or she takes birth.

After Abhimanyu's death, Krishna consoles the Pandavas on Abhimanyu's loss. Many are dejected, Krishna explains to them that there are many people dying in the war but they get sad only when they lost their own relations and are not worried when their commanders, soldiers die. This is all due to considering their own individuality and that they are situated in maya. Draupadi argues, but Krishna explains to her on her situation.

Bhagavad Gita: Ladder of Fall Chapter 2 Verse 62 | All Things Spiritual

Bhagavad Gita: Ladder of Fall Chapter 2 Verse 62 | All Things Spiritual While contemplating the objects of the senses, a person develops attachment for them, and from such attachment lust develops, and from lust anger arises. One who is not God conscious is subjected to material desires while contemplating the objects of senses. The senses require real engagements, and if they are not engaged in the transcendental loving service of the Lord, they will certainly seek engagement in the service of materialism. In the material world everyone—is subjected to the influence of sense objects, and the only method to get out of the maya of material existence is to become God conscious.

Here, not only has man completely loses his equanimity, but has also causes pain to other members of his family. So the message here is that constant pondering and thinking about objects eventually leads to moving away from equanimity, hence it is to be avoided, or at least minimized to the extent possible.

An interesting point seen here is around anger. Per the shlokas, anger is caused when one’s desire gets obstructed. Also, attachment to a concept such as one’s job title or position causes continual waves of thought, anger and delusion, in other words, stress.  Therefore, these shlokas provide an ancient but relevant analysis of anger and stress.
